Carved and painted round blue sculptural vessel with filial. Inspired by ocean coral. Created by fine art woodworker Steve Miller of WNC.

I treat my sculptural wood forms as a blank three dimensional canvas. The smooth surface of the turned wood is transformed through carved and burned textures that echo rhythms found in nature. Layers of carefully applied paint create bold textures, accentuated contours and fields of nuanced color. The end result is a form or vessel that has the warmth and tactile qualities of wood, with the visual punch of a painting.
